MLB Prospects to Watch 2020: National League East

By: Chris Larson

The National League East is poised to be the most competitive division in all of baseball this coming season. When you look at the division in the bigger picture, the Washington Nationals, Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, and Philadelphia Phillies should challenge for the division crown. All four of those teams are in the midst of their win-now window and it's going to be fascinating to watch the face that takes place down the stretch involving all four. For the Washington Nationals, they will look to use their stellar 1-2-3 punch in their starting rotation to attempt to become repeat World Series Champions. When it comes to the Atlanta Braves, the organization possesses a lot of talented prospects up and down throughout the organization and there is a lot to like about the team's major league roster. The same can be said for the New York Mets as well when it comes to starting pitching and having one of the best rotations in all of baseball. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Phillies still possess a lot of talent at the big league level and should be able to find a new identity under manager, Joe Girardi who will be in his first season managing the team.

Rounding out the division this coming season will likely be the Miami Marlins. Although the team looks projected to finish in last place again, they should improve on their win-loss total from last season due in part to the moves the team has made this offseason. The Marlins went into this offseason with a clear need to add veteran positional players to the team and the Marlins front office did just that with their acquisitions of Francisco Cervelli behind the plate, first baseman Jesus Aguilar, middle infielder Jonathan Schoop, and outfielder Corey Dickerson. All four of those players will be great leaders and mentors for the teams young players and will help with another year of the rebuilding plan there.

While the division should be very competitive at the big league level, another fascinating aspect to watch for all five teams will be the development of some of their impactful prospects down in the farm system. Each team has a unique farm based around different impactful prospects. Some of those prospects will make their major league debut coming out of Spring Training or even at some point this coming season. Regardless, each team possesses a lot of talent and prospects that should help to allow them to be competitive for the next handful of seasons.

With that being said, here is a link to an article on Last Word On Sports regarding one prospect to watch for each of the five teams in the National League East this coming season.
